The Coffee Supreme Recycling Program

Last year, the day we launched our soft plastics recyclable coffee bags the Packaging Forum announced they would no longer collect soft plastics within New Zealand. We were and still are gutted. But, onwards and upwards.

So, we’ve put our heads together and created an in-house Packaging Project team. While the team brainstorms, researches and trials a new and better longterm solution, we’ve discovered a program that allows us to close the loop with our existing bags.

Introducing, TerraCycle - a free recycling program for you, our customers, which will divert plastic waste from landfill and back into a useful material. TerraCycle are ‘eliminating the idea of waste’ by recycling the “non-recyclable”; It operates free recycling programs funded by brands, manufacturers, and retailers around the world to help collect and process hard-to-recycle waste. TerraCycle reuses, upcycles and recycles waste instead of incinerating or landfilling it. Our coffee bags and Instant sachets will be melted down into tiny plastic pallets, think Lego, and then repurposed into various other plastic products, such as park benches, garden beds and playground equipment. This moves the waste from a linear system to a circular one, allowing it to keep cycling in our economy.

So, as of today, you can drop your bags at any Supreme shop and we’ll make sure the loop is closed.
